GRiT – Girls MTB Camp 2019

We can’t wait to see you at the PA Interscholastic League’s Girls Riding Together (GRiT) Camp this summer!

Five days and four nights of fun and mountain bikes with an all female cast of cyclists to coach and guide you in the ways of the knobbie wheels.

We’ll ride, hike, swim, ramp up our skills, sing around the camp fire, watch for bald eagles, get crafty, do some yoga, sleep in cabins and chill in the woods with old and new mountain biking friends.

The camp is for girls in grades 6th (as of Fall 2019) thru 12th, of all levels! No boys allowed! Experienced riders will develop their skills and and learn about training to race. Mountain biking experience is not necessary. And, even if you’ve never ridden before, you’re welcome to come here and learn. We’ve a dozen coaches ready to help!

You don’t even need your own mountain bike. We have a fleet of mountain bikes we are happy to loan to you, should you need one. If you do need a bike for camp please let us know and we’ll be in touch to figure out the proper size and make sure you have the rest of the gear you need, too.

RECOMMENDED PACKING LIST (PRELIMINARY)

  • Your mountain bike (be sure it’s in proper working order)
  • Helmet
  • Eye protection
  • Cycling shoes (this may be your sneakers for some riders)
  • Cycling clothes
  • Hydration pack or water bottles and cages on bike
  • Tubes
  • Head lamp or flashlight
  • Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, soap etc)
  • Towels- bath and swim
  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Mattress cover (a flat sheet will work fine)
  • Water bottle
  • Bathing suit
  • Rain coat
  • Rain boots
  • Sneakers or sturdy shoes for hiking and riding
  • Shower shoes
  • Sweatshirt
  • Best friend
  • Jeans or sweatpants
  • Shorts
  • Shirts
  • Socks (extra socks too)
  • Pajamas
  • Snacks… for the ride and whenever!
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Laundry bag for dirty clothes
  • Small fan
  • Dead tubes and small used bike parts for craft projects!

1:00-3:00 PM Check-in
1:00-4:00 PM Introductions, cabin set up and bike games                                                                           
5:00 PM Hike or bike around camp
6:00 PM Dinner
7:00 PM Guest Speaker
8:30 PM Campfire and snack
9:30 PM Bedtime

Thursday/FRIDAY/SATURDAY – AGENDA

7:30 AM Wake up bell
8:30 AM Breakfast
9:15 AM Group rides or yoga or strength training
11:30 AM Bike talk!  Maintenance, Trail Issues, Gear Questions etc
12:30 PM Lunch
12:30 PM R & R: Chill with your cabin mates, read a book, chase butterflies…
1:30 PM Skills Clinics, bike games, or maybe bike-themed craft time
2:15 PM Pre-ride snack/hydration
2:30 PM Group Rides! (There are always options for girls who need a break from a ride!)
4:00 PM Swim, crafts or chill time
6:00 PM Dinner
6:30 PM Evening activity: Paint Night, Skits, Group Games
8:00 PM Campfire some nights, other nights will be a night ride or hike!
9:30 PM Bedtime
