Susi Bruhns - Volunteer Coordinator

I’m Susi Bruhns, one of your Volunteer Coordinators. I’ve been around PICL since the early days as a parent with my sons riding with TE Composite. When growth led to our school district splitting off, I led the charge in starting the Radnor/Delco team, becoming Team Director. And over those years I regularly volunteered, sneaking in shifts around Team Director responsibilities and watching my kids on the course. As Delco grew, and local team leadership took on more team race responsibilities, I joined Mimi in the Volunteer Coordinator role in 2023.

Volunteering at races, eventually starting a team and Team Directing, and now serving as one of the League’s Volunteer Coordinators were natural steps for me. As a mom to three typically active youth, I am a regular volunteer in our schools and home community. And with how much my kids all love their PICL Community, I figured I could find a fit there, too.

And, it is the PICL community and races where I’ve come to truly love spending my time and energy. Of course, I get all the mom-feels at seeing my own kids doing something they love (on both the good and not so good days of racing) but also the hundreds of kids I’ve watched grow over the years. Our own Delco teammates and former TE teammates, youth from local teams we overlap with at church or know through shared acquaintances, and youth from across PA who are some of my kids’ best friends that they got to know at camp, hanging out at races together “in the woods”, or after years lining up together at starts.

As Volunteer Coordinator, I don’t spend as much time beside the course as I used to, but I’ve found a place helping parents, grandparents, community enthusiasts, and even athletes find a spot to spend a couple hours on race weekends supporting the league. My favorite PICL moments aren’t seeing my kid tackle a technical area, but when a volunteer tells me that they loved their volunteer spot because “they were able to cheer on so many kids”, “they enjoyed getting away from Pit Zone and supporting the weekend’, or especially “that was so much fun telling people what to (or not) do in the parking lot!” (You know who you are!)
