BECOME A COACH
PICL coaches are mentors, motivators, trusted role models, and among the very best trained youth sports coaches. Our coaches prioritize the mental, physical, and social well-being of every student-athlete and create safe experience where fun and personal growth is the goal for everyone on the team.
Whether you're an experienced cyclist or just passionate about helping kids grow, there's a place for you as a coach!
Coaching with Purpose
PICL coaches are trained through the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), which is at the forefront of youth sports coaching. Your coaching journey will be guided by best practices in youth development, leadership, and outdoor education.
Steps to get started
Step 1: To register as a coach and begin the NICA coach training you must be invited into “Pitzone” (NICA’s registration system) by your local team or the league.
Most of you will be invited to Pitzone by your local team - reach out to local leadership to gain access - and if you’re an independent coach or have trouble finding your local team, please contact the league.

Step 2: Once invited into Pitzone you are able to engage in NICA’s Coach License training, which offers three levels of involvement:
Level 1 Coach: Supports the team under direction of the Head Coach. Great for new volunteers.
Level 2 Coach: Leads practices and rides with increased responsibility.
Level 3 Coach: Head Coach or team leadership role with full oversight of team operations.
Step 3: Find out more about the NICA Coaching Levels and Requirements at the link below.
No Experience? No Problem.
You don’t need to be a cycling expert to be a great coach, you just need to care. PICL provides comprehensive training and support throughout the year.
