JON SPAHR’s love for the outdoors started early and never really let go. Growing up camping, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and whitewater kayaking, he has always felt most at home outside. That passion deepened after college, when he toured western Europe with nothing but a train ticket and a backpack—an experience that helped launch a 12-year career in the outdoor industry and set the tone for a life centered on exploration, learning, and growth.
Jon has been a PICL coach since 2016 and brings a strong commitment to coach education and development. He has served as a NICA Coach Trainer for On-The-Bike 101 and 201 skills since 2021, was trained as a Coach Trainer Instructor in 2024, and is also a Bicycle Instructor Certification Program (BICP) Level 1 Instructor. In 2022. Jon joined the PICL staff in the role of Director of Coaching where he seeks to support coaches and teams in their ongoing development. At his core, Jon is passionate about instructing, teaching, and coaching others as they work toward meaningful goals - on and off the bike.
Fueled by good coffee and pizza, and inspired by the reminder that “As a coach, your influence is never neutral!” (John O’Sullivan), Jon approaches his role with purpose, curiosity, and care. He lives in Morgantown, PA with his wife, Lori, their four kids, and a very large (and goofy) dog named Louie.
