Try-Its Plant Seeds in Western PA

At the heart of PICL's mission is a focus to get more kids on bikes.

With support from RK Mellon and PA’s DCNR, PICL has been specifically looking to grow ridership in the Pittsburgh area. 

By hosting Try-It events with Ruach, Environmental Charter (ECS), King and North Allegheny Schools, PICL is planting seeds of curiosity and excitement. These events give students a chance—often their first—to ride a mountain bike in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment. 

Encouraging the formation of new teams in Pittsburgh is critical for building long-term participation and equity in the sport. Our DCNR x PICL Loaner Bike Program supported by Trek continues to grow in 2025 bringing more bikes to new and existing teams that are growing in the area.
